It has been found that dinosaurs had a huge number of Chromosomes – the chunks within which DNA is organized. High number of chromosomes allowed them to shuffle their genes, evolve quickly and dominate earth for 180 million years.
Birds have around thrice the number of chromosomes than humans which also explains the wide variety that we observe. However, the dinosaurs couldn’t survive the one event that eventually led to their extinction, the asteroid impact 66 million years ago. And the researchers at the University of Kent, the ones behind this study, have no plan to recreate any dinosaurs, Jurassic park style. Why? Because the DNA cannot be extracted, as dinosaurs existed between 66 and 245 million years ago, and DNA has so far made a record of surviving for a million years.
