According to the researchers, people’s motivation to hold on to desirable notions about future outlooks result from the communication between the ventromedial prefrontal cortex and the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex areas. This results in people tending to regard good news indicating that personal risks are lower than expected, and to disregard bad news indicating that personal risks are higher than expected.
