Meet the super-insulating gel, made from beer waste

The gel, called ‘aerogel’, has such high heat resistant properties that you can put a strip of it with fire on top and not feel anything!

One of the properties of this gel, developed at the University of Colorado, Boulder, is transparency. The gel is 90% gas by weight, with solid material deposited in a crisscross pattern throughout the film and evidently is 100 times lighter than glass. With such physical attributes, the aerogel is an ideal candidate for using in high-rises as well as in constructing residential colonies on Mars.
