Astronomers now know two times more ‘fast radio bursts’

Australian researchers using a CSIRO radio telescope in Western Australia have nearly doubled the known number of 'fast radio bursts'.

The research team's discoveries at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research comprise of the nearest and brightest fast radio bursts ever discovered. They have demonstrated that fast radio bursts are coming from the other side of the Universe rather than from our own galactic neighborhood.

Fast radio bursts come from all over the sky and last for just milliseconds. Scientists don't know what causes them but it must involve incredible energy, which is equivalent to the amount released by the Sun in 80 years

Using the new technology of the Australia Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), they also proved that fast radio bursts are coming from the other side of the Universe rather than from our own galactic neighborhood.
